Day 1 – 14th October

Regional design: Perspectives from theory

During this session, a conceptual framework for analysing, understanding and developing regional design is discussed. The aim of this session is to clarify dimensions of regional design and the performances it is expected to deliver.

Day 2 – 15th October

Session 2
Academic approaches to teaching regional design

This session discusses how academia manoeuvres between theory and practice while addressing academic design exercises at the scale of the region. Some of the questions that will be addressed are related to the real world versus laboratory setting dichotomy, experimentation with new visualization methods, dealing with complexity of data, time horizons and the communicative turn in planning.

9:00 -   9:15 Welcome and brief synopsis of the first conference day

9:15 - 10:30 Teaching regional design: Experience from Munich and Delft

Nadia Alaily-Mattar, Lukas Gilliard, Munich University of Technology

12:30 - 13:30 Lunch

Session 3
European case-studies in regional design

In this session, case studies of regional design in the European context are presented. The aim is to engage with experts who are actively involved in the practice of regional design, to identify the major challenges they face and to test the relevance of prepositions on the performance of regional design.
