Directions

The Centre for Bulding Materials at the Research Campus Garching can be reached by public transportation from Munich central station and Munich airport and by car. 

The main entrance is located on the upper floor of the building and can be accessed via the stairs on Lichtenbergstraße, as well as barrier-free via the pedestrian path from Boltzmannstraße.

Arrival by Public Transport

When arriving at Munich Central Station, the best way to reach the cbm is by S-Bahn (suburban train) and U-Bahn (subway) (travel time approx. 40 minutes).
- Take the S-Bahn towards "Marienplatz".
- Change at "Marienplatz" to the U6 (blue line) towards "Garching-Forschungszentrum".
- Exit the U-Bahn at the final stop "Garching-Forschungszentrum" in the direction of travel and walk north to Lichtenbergstraße.

Direct connections between Marienplatz and Research Campus Garching operate daily between 5 a.m. and 1 a.m. For further details, please refer to the Munich Transport Services, e.g., MVG.

When arriving at the airport, you have many options to reach the cbm. We recommend you the following two options via S-Bahn (suburbahn train) and bus (travel time approx. 40 minutes).          

Option 1:              
- Take the S-Bahn S8 towards „Herrsching”.      
- Change at “Ismaning” to the bus 230 towards “Garching Forschungszentrum”.      
- Exit the bus at the final stop “Garching Forschungszentrum” and walk north to Lichtenbergstraße.  

Option 2:      
- Take the S-Bahn S1 towards „München Leuchtenbergring”.    
- Change at “Neufahrn b. Freising” to the bus 690 towards “Garching Forschungszentrum”.    
- Exit the bus at the final stop “Garching Forschungszentrum” and walk north to Lichtenbergstraße.                     

Driving Directions by Car

The best way to reach the cbm by car is via the A9 highway (Munich-Nuremberg).
- Exit at exit 70 "Garching Nord".          
- Follow the signs for "Hochschul- und Forschungszentrum /TUM".    
- South Entrance: Cross Freisinger Landstraße, follow the course of Ludwig-Prantl-Straße, turn sharply left onto Boltzmannstraße, and follow it to Lichtenbergstraße.    
- North Entrance: Turn left onto Freisinger Landstraße and after about 600 meters, turn right onto Lichtenbergstraße.    
- Parking: Public parking spaces (some paid) are available at the research site.
