CURAC
German Society for Computer and Robot assisted Surgery

Mission Statement

The CURAC-Society was founded in 2001 as an interdisciplinary society to coordinate and support the research and collaboration of engineers, computer scientists and clinicians in the field of „Image-Guided-Surgery“.

Key features

The society provides a structured framework bringing together “developers“ and „users“ in the field of Image Guided Surgery. CURAC is dedicated to IGS core themes - i.e. image acquisition, processing, pre-operative planning to navigation, intraoperative visualization and imaging as well as surgeon-directed to autonomous robotic assistance - and committed to merge them into a comprehensive system. Such a conceptual approach extends from workflow analysis to the design and implementation of complex surgical theatres.

The Society´s main contributions are the annual meeting, funding and operation of specific scientific sections as well as efforts towards education and the financial support of scientists through scholarships. Currently, the society consists of more than 200 active members.

The annual meeting provides an overview of the most recent developments in the field throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland as well as a platform for communication and strategic planning of future research activities. Individual peer-reviewed contributions presented at the meeting, are published in publicly available conference proceedings.

CURAC members are encouraged to establish groups – so called sections- with focused research fields. They are financially supported by CURAC and meet during the annual meeting and independently throughout the year. They provide an even more active coordination of research efforts and facilitate interaction with other scientific societies and research groups reaching beyond “CURAC-proper”.

Member benefits include quarterly newsletter and access to the internal website, to eligibility for scholarships, e.g.: travel grants for young researchers with outstanding conference-submissions, and mobility grants to encourage geographically separated groups to initiate cooperation and larger research projects.
